Delta Air Lines 757 loses nose wheel tyre on runway in Atlanta

A 757 passenger aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines has suffered the loss of a nose wheel tyre while preparing for takeoff at Atlanta International Airport.

According to a preliminary Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) accident and incident notification report, Delta Air Lines Flight DAL982 (registered as N672DL) was lining up for takeoff when the ‘nose wheel came off and rolled down the hill’. None of the 184 passengers or 2 crew sustained injuries.

The 757 nosewheel configuration includes two tyres, one each side of a central mount. A social media video by VASAviation (filmed after the incident) indicates that the second tyre remained in place. The aircraft was later towed clear for repair.

Delta has operated the 757 since 1984. Its current fleet includes 100 757-200s and 16 757-300s.
