Copenhagen Airport is gearing up for the peak summer travel season with plans to offer direct flights to over 160 destinations, an increase of nine destinations over last summer. The airport recorded a pre-tax loss of around $8.5 million during the first quarter of 2023, but is expecting to return to profit with summer round the corner.
Speaking of the future to Schengen Visa News, Thomas Woldbye, Chief Executive, Copenhagen Airport said: “The loss was to be expected. Breaking it down month by month, we made a slight profit in March, and that is an indicator for the coming quarters, in which we expect to turn a profit.”
In preparation of additional flights and services the airport has hired around 100 staff in addition to the 810 hired in 2022.
Over 5 million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in the first three months of 2023, contributing to the slight profit in March. This increased the revenue to $120 million, which was 45% up from the same period last year.
Around seven million passengers were counted at the airport last year during June, July, and August. More than 2.3 million passed through in August 2022, as per the airport report.
In addition, the airport is planning to invest $244 million for further development and upgrades of the airport in 2023.
According to Schengen Visa News, overall income is expected to increase by 10% this year. More than 25 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport in 2023. If the projection is accurate, Copenhagen Airport will anticipate a pre-tax profit of between $21 million and $27 million.
