Contaminated water source investigation continues

Health officials in Hong Kong are investigating the possibility that contaminated water found on board 14 Cathay Pacific aircraft could have come from outside the city after they ruled out the water tankers at Chek Lap Kok airport as the source of the contamination.

The Health Department has said that small traces of bacteria were identified in two water tankers: one operated by the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (Haeco) and another by Pan Asia Pacific Aviation Services – but that none were in amount high enough to cause sickness. Moreover, not all of the 14 flights used water from these sources.

If water from other airports proves to be the source of contamination, airlines will ask those facilities to check their supply and make improvements. Hong Kong's Airport Authority will make a further request if contamination continues.
