Canada' Competition Bureau has launched its market study of competition in domestic air passenger services. The study will allow the Bureau to better understand the key drivers behind its competition concerns in Canada's domestic airline industry.
As well as examining the state of the competition, the study will also examine the barriers to both entry and expansion in the domestic industry and the impediments to Canadian passengers seeking to make informed choices for air travel.
""We know many Canadians are frustrated by the cost and quality of the service being provided domestically,"" said the Bureau's commissioner of competition Matthew Boswell. ""We heard this in many of the over 1,400 submissions to the consultation on the terms of reference.""
The study is not an investigation. However, the government body said if it does uncover any evidence of wrongdoing through the study, investigations and subsequent action may take place. It is currently seeking submissions from ""those with information relevant to this study,"" the Bureau said.
Findings will be published in a final report that will make recommendations to Canada's airline industry.
