Qantas customers had probably thought they swiped one an exceptional bargain with first class fares discounted as low as 85% and 65% lower fares on business class on August 22, 2024.
""Unfortunately, this is a case where the fare was actually too good to be true,"" a Qantas spokesperson confirmed. A coding error on the company's website had resulted in the massive discount on flights between the US and Australia.
During the eight hours that the flights were available on the website, approximately 300 bookings were made. Terms and conditions allow Qantas to cancel or offer a full refund if there has been a mistake - quite obvious by the heavily discounted prices. A spokesperson for the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) concurred, stating: ""Businesses are entitled to withdraw an offer or product from sale to correct inaccurate pricing or other incorrect information."" The spokesperson added that under Australian consumer law, businesses are not required to honour incorrectly advertised offers.
The spokesperson added: ""As a gesture of goodwill, we’re rebooking customers in business class at no additional cost. Customers also have the option of a full refund.""
