C&L Aviation expansion plans

MRO company C&L Aviation is planning to expand following the approval of a $1.24 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, which will be matched by local investment.

CEO Chris Kilgour has confirmed that the $2.5 million will fund a series of improvements to the company’s existing facilities, including overhauling a fourth vacant hangar into a space for refurbishing corporate jets. C&L also will construct a new building connecting its new hangar with the aircraft-painting hangar, part of another expansion completed in 2014. The new addition will be used primarily for storage, opening up room to service more aircraft.

In an interview with the local media, Kilgour commented that the company was finding it difficult finding qualified aviation mechanics, which would only increase as the company expands. As a result, C&L is working with the University of Maine at Augusta to develop a two-year program in aircraft repair to train new workers.
