Chinese operators resume scheduled services to Cambodia

International operators are resuming scheduled services to Cambodia, post-pandemic. Prior to COVID-19, around 45 airlines operated in and out of Cambodia. But like every other country Cambodian aviation too was hard hit by the pandemic.

However, with the lifting of pandemic restrictions in China, things are looking up as China is one of the major sources of tourism and business investment in Cambodia.

Norinda Khek, communication director, Cambodia Airports said: “Majority of airlines that operated before the pandemic are back, except the ones flying from/to Japan and the Gulf region. But Qatar has already announced the resumption of flights linking Doha and Phnom Penh this coming October.”

Many Chinese carriers have also announced their scheduled flights to the country. China Eastern Airlines resumed flights to Siem Reap, Air China carried 125 Chinese tourists from Beijing to the Phnom Penh International Airport recently and Ruili Airlines relaunched flights between Kunming and Sihanoukville. Hainan Airlines restarted services linking the Shenzhen and Phnom Penh.

Angkor Air, Cambodia’s national carrier has plans to establish a second headquarters in China and has started flights to Haikou with plans to connect Hangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore.

Cambodia Airways is planning to launch Phnom Penh and Beijing route starting March 27, 2023. The airline already operates scheduled flights from Phnom Penh to Shenzhen and Chengdu.
