Air China, China Eastern, China Southern and Hainan Airlines are planning to jointly sue the European Union for its plan to charge airlines for carbon emissions.
The move joins a similar legal challenge by the Air Transport Association of America, American Airlines and United Continental, whose case is being heard in the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and a ruling is expected early in the New Year.
The International Civil Aviation Organization has issued a paper from several nations urging the EU not to include non-EU carriers in its plan, while the House of Representatives voted to ban US airline compliance with the scheme.
