Singapore's Changi Airport has expanded its link to all South Asian cities to the pre-pandemic level and is witnessing the daily traffic of more than twice the number that passed through the airport when Singapore first reopened its borders in April 2022. Recently the airport added Pune in Maharashtra, India to its network.
The airport has been re-established in view of a strong rebound in passenger traffic and currently handles around 150,000 passengers daily and a million a week, which is 75% of what it handled in 2019, according to Transport Minister S. Iswaran, as quoted by Strait Times.
The airport has also increased its workforce to 90% of the pre-COVID level, according to the Changi Airport Group (CAG). Passenger traffic to and from North America has rebounded strongly to exceed pre-pandemic levels, the group added.
As at the first week of December 2022, 95 airlines operated over 5,500 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to some 140 cities in 48 countries and territories worldwide with Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand being the top traffic contributors in the first 10 months of 2022.
