Cathay Pacific close to Boeing 777F order

Cathay Pacific is poised to announce an order for six new Boeing 777-8 Freighters, Reuters report. The order is estimated to be around $2 billion and will be used to partially renew the airlines aging 747 fleet.

"We continue to invest in and grow our fleet with the addition of new, state-of-the-art and fuel-efficient aircraft. We have no specific updates or announcements to make at this time regarding the fleet,” the airline told Reuters.

Boeing declined any comment due to commercial sensitivity. The speculation around further investment in cargo division by Cathay group took seed in November 2022 when the airline said that it was actively in discussion with aircraft manufacturers.

According to Reuters, an order for the 777-8F should see the aircraft enter service by 2027.

Cathay Pacific has six aging 747-400F, with an average age of 15 years; this is in addition to another 14 747-800F, with an average age of ten years.
