The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) lifted a six-week flying ban on Tiger Airways on Wednesday. The airline’s Australian operations are able to resume at any time after it had demonstrated it could comply with the new conditions on its air operator’s certificate and meet the necessary safety requirements. Some of the conditions relate to extra training for pilots, in simulators and ground training. There are also conditions around pilot rostering and fatigue management and the revision of operational manuals and amendments to the airline’s safety management system.
Tiger was grounded on July 2 when CASA was forced to take action after concern over pilot proficiency when two flights approached airports in Melbourne too low. The airline also failed to act on CASA warnings about pilot proficiency, training and checking, and fatigue management.
Tiger has stated on its website that its domestic Australian flights will remain suspended until August 11.
