The passenger traffic through the Muscat International Airport increased by 87% in 2022 as compared to 2021 with the total number of flights totalling up to 76,392, according to the data released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The Sultanate of Oman also witnessed a rise of 129% in passenger traffic with over 8,602,000 passengers passing through the Muscat airport. The cargo traffic also closed at 34% rise over 2021.
Sohar Airport witnessed a 28% increase in air traffic during 2022 and a 122% increase in the number of passengers in 2022 while Duqm Airport witnessed a 37% increase in the number of passengers, while aircraft traffic decreased by 21%.
The total air traffic in Oman during 2022 reached 470,809 flights, while the total number of aircraft crossing the Omani airspace reached 386,391 flights, as per CAA report.
During a Press briefing, Nayef Ali Al Abri, chairman, CAA said: “Implementation of the first phase of the construction of Musandam Airport project, refurbishment of the southern runway at Muscat International Airport, and updating the National Civil Aviation Strategy in line with Oman Vision 2040 are among the key goals in 2023 set by the CAA.”
He also expressed satisfaction over achieving good results in 2022 post the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
