Britain oil companies face Iranian wrath

After refusals to refuel its commercial aircraft in London, Iran has threatened to retaliate against British oil companies.

Although the oil companies are not acting illegally by refuelling Iranian civil aircraft, BP and Shell and three others have refused to do so either to help repair damaged reputations in the US, in the case of BP, or to curry favour with Washington to preserve good relations.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, said at his weekly press conference that, "the continuation of this approach by these companies will jeopardise their interests,” he added: "We will not tolerate it, and confronting them is in the agenda."

A BP spokesman said to UK newspapers that they “fully comply with any international sanctions imposed in countries where we operate.
