Brisbane airport is all set to hit a post-pandemic record for January 2023. The airport expects 1.7 million passenger footfalls, its highest ever since the pandemic outbreak.
Brisbane's international capacity is currently at 63% pre-COVID, and domestic operations are at 90%. The airport expects a full recovery in international movements could take until 2025.
Gert-Jan de Graaff, Brisbane Airport Corporation chief executive said: “Within Queensland, our busiest routes have been from Brisbane to Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, and Rockhampton.”
As per the official records, most international tourists were bound for New Zealand, Bali in Indonesia and UK.
Going ahead, many overseas operators resumed its Brisbane capacity anticipating passenger demand. United Airlines launched San Francisco-Brisbane route in October 2022 after a codeshare between Virgin Australia and United giving it codeshare access to domestic flights and allowing it to add its third destinations in the country.
Going ahead, Jetstar is also planning to start operations between connect Brisbane International Airport (BNE) to Auckland International Airport (AKL) from March 27, 2023.
