Brisbane Airport welcomed five-weekly Korean Air's nonstop service between Seoul and Brisbane, delivering over 89,000 inbound seats per year.
Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said: “South Korea is an economic powerhouse, Queensland's third-largest trading market, and a major technology partner in the state's new energy economy. The return of permanent flights turns the tap back on for large-scale South Korean tourism to Queensland and makes it easier for students to study here and their families to visit."
Eyeing the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Brisbane, the government estimate to generate $13.3 bn in international visitor expenditure between now and 2036 with Korean tourists estimated to inject an additional $120 million into the Queensland economy.
The resumption of this service coincides with Korean Air’s 30th anniversary in Brisbane.
Welcoming the resumption of services, Jason Jeong, Regional Manager, Korean Air said: “We are ready and excited to welcome back Queenslanders on our flights. I must thank the Queensland Government and Brisbane Airport Corporation for assisting Korean Air [to] relaunch services. Queenslanders will now be able to enjoy Korean Air's five weekly services to Seoul and beyond to many exciting destinations once again.
