Brazilian airport projects delayed

The economic downturn in Brazil has led to several São Paulo-area airport projects, which were intended to serve the 2014 soccer World Cup and the Olympic Games, being stalled.

Aerovale in Caçapava, which received one of the first federal licenses as a private airport allowed to charge for operations, has been stalled for more than a year causing the construction company to see protection from creditors and seek an investor.
Catarina Executive Airport, 40 miles west of São Paulo in São Roque, is also seeking new investment.

São Paulo Sorocaba Airport has benefitted from investment by the government, however, and has enlarged taxiways, ramps, and infrastructure for new hangars, while the runway was increased to 5347 feet. A new control tower is under constructio
