Brazil stops short of defining 2027 blended SAF targets
Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies has approved the nation’s ‘Fuels of the Future’ programme, creating national frameworks for renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and biomethane, with the bill now set to pass to the Senate for debate. However, although independent publication the Brazilian Report described the bill as also requiring airlines ‘to reduce greenhouse gas emissions starting in 2027,’ it adds that specific SAF targets have not been set; with airlines instead required to reduce their emissions by 10% by 2037'. The programme had previously cited the importance of the “evaluation of energy-environmental efficiency through the analysis of the complete life cycle,” highlighting the significance of addressing the impact “from well to wheel in the different ways of transportation”.
