Boom Supersonic breaks ground at North Carolina factory site

Boom Supersonic has started work on a "superfactory" where its supersonic passenger jet will be built.

What will be a "state-of-the-art manufacturing facility", the Overture Superfactory is to be stood up on a 62-acre campus at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. It will house the final assembly line, test facility and customer delivery centre for the Overture, Boom’s in-process supersonic passenger jet.

The breaking of ground at the site "represents a significant step forward in building sustainable and accessible supersonic travel for the world,” said Kathy Savitt, Boom president.

Boom aims to have 2,400 workers at the site by 2032, with hiring underway to tap in to it said is North Carolina's "large skilled talent pool, access to exceptional universities, community colleges, and technical schools, proximity to the eastern Seaboard for supersonic flight testing over water and close proximity to several top-tier aerospace suppliers."

"Building on our legacy of 'First in Flight,' North Carolina is ready to partner with Boom Supersonic in leading the way to a fast and clean aviation future," said state governor Roy Cooper.
