Boeing plans to lay off 2,199 workers in Washington State across various locations, it said in a worker adjustment and retraining notification (WARN) filing. The layoff start date was listed as December 20, 2024.
In addition, around 220 employees based in Charleston, South Carolina are set to be laid off from January 17, 2025, according to another WARN filing.
Missouri-based FOX2now reported that Boeing issued 111 layoff notices to mechanics based in St. Louis. It added that the employees were given a 60-day WARN Act notice - meaning that the employees will be paid through January 17, 2025. In addition, Oregon-based news outlet Koin 6 reported 50 workers based in Portland were also being laid off and expected to begin January 17, 2025.
The layoffs come as Boeing plans to cut around 17,000 of its workforce - representing around 10% of its staff.
