Qatar Airways has secured the largest aircraft order in its history on May 14, 2025. The airline ordered up to 210 Boeing widebody jets, powered by GE Aerospace engines, also marking Boeing's largest widebody order.
The deal consists of 130 firm orders for the 787 Dreamliner — the largest order from Qatar for this aircraft type — and 30 777-9s. Additionally, the company has options for up to 50 additional 787 and 777X jets.
“This is a critical step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation,” said Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. “This is so we can meet the strong demand in the airline as we seamlessly connect passengers to the world better than anyone."
“Our team is looking forward to building 787s and 777s for Qatar Airways into the next decade as they connect more people and businesses around the world,” commented Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope.
Delivery dates for the mega order were not disclosed by either parties.
Al-Meer added: “We're not simply chasing scale; we're building strength that will allow us to continue to deliver our unmatched products and customer experiences.”
The deal was announced as part of US President Donald Trump's tour of the Middle East and was a witness to the deal's signing. The deal follows shortly after AviLease secured its first direct OEM order with Boeing for 30 737 MAX aircraft.
In addition, the airline signed an agreement with GE Aerospace for over 400 engines as part of the deal, including 60 GE9X and 260 GEnx engines, with additional options and spares.
“We are extremely honoured to deepen our relationship with Qatar Airways and grateful to them for placing their trust in us with our largest ever widebody engine deal,” commented GE Aerospace chairman and CEO Lawrence Culp.
The airline currently operates over 150 Boeing airplanes, including 777 and 787 passenger jets, along with 777 freighters.
