Boeing has resumed 777X certification flight testing on January 16, 2025, following a five month delay.
“We continue to execute a rigorous test programme to demonstrate the safety, performance, and reliability of the 777-9,” a Boeing spokesperson confirmed to Airline Economics.
Flight testing was halted after issues with the thrust link, a component between the engine and the airplane structure. Boeing began inspecting its flight test fleet, it confirmed in August.
“During scheduled maintenance, we identified a component that did not perform as designed," a Boeing spokesperson said at the time. "Our team is replacing the part and capturing any learnings from the component and will resume flight testing when ready.”
The company confirmed there had been no near-term flight test scheduled at the time.
The flight testing was held back further after a seven-week machinist strike began in September. Striking workers returned to work in November.
According to its orders and deliveries, the company 540 orders for the 777X with Qatar expected to be the launch customer, which has 94 on order. Emirates has the largest order size with 262 on order.
