Kevin McAllister, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, has resigned amid the growing crisis surrounding the 737 MAX which for the past eight months has been grounded after two accidents killed 346 people.
McAllister, who has been in the role since 2016, has been under mounting pressure for his handling of the 737 MAX groundings. In his place, Boeing has installed Stan Deal, formerly president and CEO of Boeing Global Services, effective immediately.
Filling the role left vacant by Deal is Ted Colbert who was previously chief information officer and senior vice president of information technology & data analytics.
Commenting on the changes, Boeing President and CEO Dennis Muilenburg said: "Our entire Boeing team is focused on operational excellence, aligned with our values of safety, quality and integrity, and we're committed to delivering on our commitments and regaining trust with our regulators, customers and other stakeholders.
"Stan brings extensive operational experience at Commercial Airplanes and trusted relationships with our airline customers and industry partners; and Ted brings to our Global Services business an enterprise approach to customers and strong digital business expertise—a key component of our long-term growth plans.
"We're grateful to Kevin for his dedicated and tireless service to Boeing, its customers and its communities during a challenging time, and for his commitment to support this transition."
Deal joined Boeing in 1986, holding various positions during that time including and president and chief executive officer of Boeing Global Services. He is a member of Boeing's executive council.
Meanwhile, Colbert joined Boeing in 2009 and is a member of the Boeing executive council. In his prior role, he served as chief information officer (CIO) and senior vice president of information technology & data analytics.
