Limited range, overweight and now on the brink of being sold - Ethiopian Airlines is in advanced discussions with Boeing to buy eight of the early-build 787s. This sale coupled with the two sold to Air Austral already means Boeing might finally be rid of the 787 white tails that have been sitting in Seattle for so very long now (five years). The aircraft required heavy structural reinforcements to bolster their composite shells and this rendered them uncompetitive against later 787s coming off of the line with range restricted by up to 1,000 nautical miles. Boeing is looking to clear all of the overweight early 787s and is readying the same for sale at this time. Ethiopian will no doubt have received a very good offer to take the aircraft.
