Boeing opens research and technology facility in Japan
Boeing has opened a research and technology centre in Nagoya, Japan, aiming to develop sustainable technologies focusing on digital simulation toolsets, composites, sustainable aviation fuel and hydrogen. Recognising Japan for its “strength and engineering and technology,” Boeing chief technology officer Todd Citron added: “We look forward to originating research in Nagoya that will benefit Japan and the world.” The country currently has Boeing’s larger supplier base outside the US. The facility will include specific focus areas for research alongside a robotics lab, where engineers can explore ways to help improve worker safety, ergonomics and quality in Boeing production. The manufacturer’s Japan supply chain and supplier quality teams, also co-located in the facility, will support ‘efficiencies with the Boeing Research & Technology team in developing innovative solutions’. “Together with our Japanese partners we will continue to support production and sustainment across our portfolio of commercial and defense aircraft; invest in digital engineering and advanced manufacturing capabilities to create a more resilient and competitive industry; and together drive sustainability and innovation, forge new partnerships, and find new ways to collaborate,” confirmed president of Boeing Japan Will Shaffer.
