Boeing recorded a strong delivery report for May 2023 with almost 50 deliveries, double of its April deliveries which stood at 26.
The deliveries included eight 787 Dreamliners with two 787-8s for American Airlines, one 787-9 each to AerCap, Air Lease Corporation, and Turkish Airlines and 787-10s to Air France-KLM Group, British Airways and EVA Air, despite another quality control issue affecting production.
Boeing has delivered 206 planes so far this year, behind the 244 that Airbus has handed over in the first five months of the year.
Out of 50 aircraft, 35 were the 737 MAX. Southwest Airlines took delivery of 11 aircraft of the type, while Ryanair and United Airlines took in six each. Another narrow-body, the P8 Poseidon, based on the 737 NG, was delivered to the South Korean military.
A single MAX went to Air Lease Corporation, BOC Aviation Limited, Copa Airlines, and TUI Travel PLC.
As of the end of May, Boeing had delivered 163 737 MAXs in 2023, and 44 of those have gone to Southwest Airlines, 29 to United Airlines, and 24 to Ryanair, recording about 60% of global MAX deliveries in the first five months of 2023. On the lessor front, Air Lease Corporation has accepted fifteen, 777 Partners has taken four, and AerCap three 737 MAX.
Boeing delivered three 777 Freighters, one each to China Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and DHL Aviation. UPS received two 767-300F freighters, and FedEx Express added one.
Boeing also secured orders for 69 aircraft in May, although it only identified two 787-8s for Asia-Pacific airline Air Niugini. The balance of orders was for eight 787-9s and 59 737 MAXs destined for Unidentified Customers, with an announcement due at the Paris Air Show.
