Boeing has begun certification testing of the braking system on the 777-9, Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope said on a LinkedIn post on March 24, 2025.
As previously reported, Boeing chief financial officer Brian West said on March 19, 2025, that the company had been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the second phase of the 777X flight testing.
West continued: “[The second phase] is when you start to get into areas like aerodynamics, the brakes, the engine. So, we’re in that next milestone… we’re on our way now to that second phase of certification and get ourselves to the point where we could get this in service next year.”
While the braking system has already been thoroughly tested by Boeing's engineers, this next phase is being conducted with FAA personnel onboard.
“In this phase of certification testing, our team will demonstrate the safety and reliability of the 777-9’s aerodynamics, brakes and engines, ensuring compliance to rigorous regulatory requirements,” said Pope.
The 777X has over 480 orders.
