US media reports that Boeing and United Technologies have been stockpiling titanium from Russian producer VSMPO-Avisma, as a precaution against supply disruption if the new US/EU sanctions against Russia escalate further.
Boeing, United Technologies and Airbus Group buy a substantial share of their titanium requirement from VSMPO-Avisma Corp.
The stockpiling is reported to have commenced as early as March 2014, after the conflict in Crimea and the Ukraine first began.
