BMi Baby the UK regional, currently runs 30 flights a week from Cardiff but yesterday announced it would halt all flights as of October 30. An announcement stated: “In the current economic climate it is essential for bmibaby to focus on airports where the airline already has a strong market presence and where there are strong growth opportunities for the bmibaby business.”
The airline will now reposition two Boeing 737 aircraft currently based at Cardiff, and two Boeing 737 aircraft currently based at Manchester to Belfast, Birmingham and East Midlands Airports in the winter.
Bmibaby employs 69 people at Cardiff including 44 cabin crew, 24 pilots and one manager. A 30-day consultation period with unions is now underway.
