Blackpool Airport, a UK regional airport, could close if it cannot attract a buyer to rescue the loss-making business.
In a statement, Blackpool Airport said that, if no agreement to ensure the viability of operations had been reached before Oct. 7, then “we expect that the last commercial flights will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014.”
It said it was “exploring a number of options in an attempt to secure the future of the airport.”
Jet2.com, Aer Lingus Regional/Stobart Air and Citywing all operate from the airport. Citywing has indicated that it is working with the airport to seek out an interim position for continued operations, with a view to having a positive outcome for the longer term. Jet2.com insists that it intends to continue operating flights as normal from Blackpool Airport and that it is are currently working on its contingency plans.
