British Airways has announced it will enhance the existing Boeing Airplane Health Management (AHM) system it is currently operating on its fleet of 777s and 747-400
Aircraft.
Enhancements to the AHM system include Custom Alerting and Analysis module and the Real-Time Monitoring module BA has already initiated.
The Custom Alerting and Analysis module using advanced methods to control the monitoring and alerting that it receives concerning on-board systems such as tyre pressure, oxygen pressure, hydraulic fluid and oil levels in the engines and auxiliary power unit. Such information can help the airline to track in-flight faults to ensure maintenance requirements are met as they have happened, allowing the airline to order parts before the aircraft lands, minimising delays.
"We've found that AHM Real-Time monitoring has been highly beneficial to our maintenance programs by allowing enhanced planning and positioning of our people and materials, so much so that I track the status of our fleet and even individual airplanes on my iPad through MyBoeingFleet," says Garry Copeland, engineering director of British Airways. "The addition of Custom Alerting will provide even greater visibility into the maintenance requirements of our fleet."
BA’s new 787 aircraft will also be fitted with the enhanced system.
