British Airways (BA) will replace its paper-based maintenance reporting system with automated reporting process E-Logs, which uses real-time data to predict aircraft maintenance issues and reduce delays. The system will also save the company on using nearly a million pieces of paper per year.
BA chief technical officer Andy Best said: ""By replacing time-consuming manual processes with digital technology we are constantly improving the reliability of our aircraft fleet and as a result our customers’ experience.""
The technology allows for the immediate transfer of data, allowing for engineers to pre-order required parts. It also allows the company to predict faults and pre-emptively fix them before they evolve.
The system forms a part of BA's £7bn ($8.8bn) two-year investment in technology, including automation and AI to be incorporated across its operations.
