Avinor gives thumbs-up to new airport at Bodo inside the Arctic Circle

Norwegian state-backed airport operator Avinor announced on December 7 it had approved the construction of a new airport at the Arctic town of Bodo, which is to be ready by 2029 and to be located almost a kilometer from the airport it will replace.

Avinor is to part with NOK 2.6 billion to help fund the project, which is expected to cost NOK 7.2 billion, exluding land and financing. The rest of the cash will come from the Norwegian government and what Avinor were "local funds".

“We are pleased to make this decision following a lengthy process that has involved the Norwegian Armed Forces and the municipality of Bodo,” said Avinor chief executive Abraham Foss.
