Avinor ANS, the Norwegian government's air navigation service provider, has announced it is using Aireon's "space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data" in support of air traffic operations in the Bodø Oceanic Flight Information Region
Avinor started using the Aireon system in oceanic regions in April 2022. It said it eased safety concerns in traffic management, including the ability to reduce separation for helicopters, marking it out for wider use.
"We were extremely pleased with the reliability and operational performance of the data in the lower-level airspace," said Tormod Rangnes, director en-route Services, Avinor ANS.
"Expanded use of the Aireon data will allow Avinor ANS to achieve new levels of safety and operational efficiencies in 2023 and beyond," Ranges added.
Avinor in late 2022 gave the go-ahead for the establishment of a replacement airport at Bodo, which sits inside the Arctic Circle.
