The second issue of Aviation Life was launched in time for Airline Economics’ flagship event, Growth Frontiers Dublin 2019 conference in January 2019, and was distributed to more than 3000 delegates and attendees. The issue purposely included a compact guide to the city, which suggests some nooks and crannies of the beautiful place that even the most frequent visitor may have missed. We also try out four of the best restaurants – all within a short distance from The Shelbourne Hotel – the epicentre of aviation, for three days in January at least.
In this second issue of Aviation Life, the romance of flight is celebrated once more on our cover, this time with an in-depth interview with Sam Rutherford, the found of the epic Vintage Air Rallies and Air Trophy Series of short take off and landing (STOL) competitions. Later this year, fifteen vintage biplanes will make the arduous journey from Ushuaia on the southernmost tip of Argentina across 19 countries to land in Miami 52 days later, all vying to be the winner but equally enjoying flying these beautiful aircraft over meaningful distances.
Still celebrating that feeling of freedom when sailing through the air, yachtsman and financier, Bill Blain explores the undeniable link between flying and sailing through the history of his hometown as well as new sail design.
Love it or loathe it, the world is moving toward electric power. As well as improving performance, converting classic cars to electric power helps to lower maintenance costs and preserves the elegance of these vintage vehicles. Electric motorcycles too are evolving, with some of the latest technology and boldest design.
As the world celebrates the half century after the first Moon landing, Ryan Gosling shares his thoughts on playing astronaut Neil Armstrong in the movie First Man. Keeping with Hollywood, Irish actor Allen Leech talks about playing Paul Prenter in Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.
