Avianca Brasil, which is officially known as Ocean Air Linhas S/A, is set to leave the Star Alliance network of airlines on 1 September after the airline has ceased operations.
Avianca Brasil has had struggles recently, the airline filed for bankruptcy protection in December 2018.
In March, the airline made plans to reduce the number of destinations it served to 23 and cut its fleet size to 26 aircraft during April.
The next month saw Avianca Brasil have 10 A320-200 aircraft repossessed by Aircastle.
Following this, Brazil's civil aviation regulator ANAC grounded the airline in May over "safety concerns" and cancelled the carrier's certificate in June.
In an announcement, Star Alliance chief executive Jeffrey Goh said that the exit of Avianca Brasil "in no way affects the membership of Avianca SA, our valued member based in Bogota, Colombia".
Avianca Brasil’s exit leaves Star Alliance with 27 member airlines, and the alliance says 11 of those offer services to and from Brazil – Air Canada, Avianca, Air China, Copa Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss, South African Airways, TAP Air Portugal, Turkish Airlines and United.
