Avianca Argentina files request to suspend operations for 90 days

It's being reported that Avianca Argentina has filed a request with the Administracion Nacional de Aviacion Civil (ANAC) to immediately cease operations for 90 days amidst financial difficulties.

A statement from the ANAC said: “the request is based on the start of a process of restructuring the company with the re-engineering of the regular route plan and the company’s business model.”

The website is currently showing a placeholder image and the airline, which operates just two ATR 72-600s, have since cancelled all flights, while customers queries remain unanswered.

The problems for Avianca have increased over the past few months, with reports that United Airlines is planning to extend a loan to cash strapped airline Avianca Holdings.

The extension plan comes after it was announced that United is looking to overhaul management at Colombia’s Avianca following former CEO Hernan Rincon’s resignation in April.

The news of Avianca Argentina aiming to cease operations comes not long after Avianca Brasil was forced to cease operations “as a precautionary measure”.
