Avelo Airlines is partnering with Seattle-based Vortex Control Technologies (VCT) to install Finlets on its fleet of 737s, making the low-cost American carrier the second in the world to install the technology.
The Finlets are installed on the aft fuselage of the aircraft and will help Avelo reduce its total fuel consumption by 1.4%. Once the entire fleet is fitted with Finlets, the airline estimates they will help it reduce its carbon footprint by an estimated 11 million pounds of C02 annually.
“We are excited to be the first airline in the world to install VCT Finlets on Boeing NG 737-800 aircraft,” explained Avelo Airlines chairman and CEO Andrew Levy. “The investment will have a meaningful reduction in our annual fuel costs, while also significantly lowering our carbon footprint”.
Avelo completed its first Finlet installation in September 2023 and expects all of its 16 737-700s and 737-800s to be retrofitted by the end of the year.
