On Friday, talks between Austrian Airlines and its staff over pay were called off after the works council rejected a proposed wage deal from the airline. The council stated that it was willing to reopen talks but that the possibility of strike action remains.
The pay offer made by Austrian included new flight duty rules and salary scales and a new pension fund. The airline argued that these changes would allow the company to expand and develop its services, including replacing some of its fleet.
"Our employees wish for an agreement and a clear perspective moving forward. They also desire to return to Austrian Airlines. We want to make this possible," Austrian Airlines CEO Jaan Albrecht said.
