Atlas Air Worldwide orders two new Boeing 777 Freighters

Atlas Air Worldwide, majority shareholder of Polar Air Cargo Worldwide, has ordered two new Boeing 777 Freighters (slated for delivery in the second half of 2024).

“These [new aircraft] come at a time when retirements of older widebody freighters will significantly increase and when the introduction of new widebody freighter capacity will be limited,” highlighted Atlas Air Worldwide CEO Michael Steen, who added that the company have a “deep pipeline of prospective customers” interested in the new acquisitions.

The company’s previous order of four 777 Freighters in 2021 are placed on a long-term ACMI agreement with MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, with the last of these due to be delivered in December 2023.

According to Brad McMullen, Boeing senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing, the type is “one of the most capable twin-engine freighters flying”.
