Aerolineas Argentinas will fly direct to Mexico from March. The move is part of the flagship airline’s plan to expand its international connections. The last time the airline offered flights to Mexico was in 2008.

“With the return of flights to Mexico we are meeting the goals we set out before Congress, with the aim of rebuilding our flagship airline,” said Mariano Recalde, president of Aerolineas.

The departure of Mexicana from the market caused Aerolineas to speed up plans to reopen the Mexican route.

Aerolineas is also making process for its return to the International Air Transport Association, which it left amid financial problems more than ten years ago. The airline hopes to rejoin IATA by 2012.
