American-based eVTOL aircraft developer Archer Aviation has signed a space act agreement with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to collaborate on the study of high-performance battery cells and safety testing intended for advanced air mobility (AAM) and space applications.
NASA's testing of Archer's battery cell and system design is believed to push forward the progress of the supply chain for electric aircraft as well as its adoption.
"Many countries around the world are challenging the US in this new era of flight," said Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein, "and our country is at risk of losing its global leadership position unless we work together, government and industry, to ensure we seize the moment and pioneer this new era of aviation technology".
The battery cell testing will be conducted using the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility's high speed X-ray facilities.
