Arajet has requested the US Department of Transportation (DOT)’s permission to begin operating scheduled commercial services to San Juan, Miami and John F Kennedy (JKF) airport. If approved, this would be Arajet’s entrance to the largest market in the Americas. The airline already operates 17 destinations in 11 countries across South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
As per the document filed with the DOT the airline: “Seeks an exemption authorizing scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail from a point or points in the Dominican Republic (...) to the coterminal points San Juan, Puerto Rico, New York, New York, and Miami, Florida.”
The airline is planning to launch commercial flights to the US by the fall of 2023 deploying its Boeing 737 MAX with 185 seat-configuration.
The airline plans to use its base in Santo Domingo Las Américas International Airport as a hub airport and improve regional connectivity by opening routes to several destinations with significant leisure travel demand to the Dominican Republic.
The airline said that it is supporting efforts in the Dominican Republic to negotiate an Open Skies agreement with the United States to allow greater flexibility in service between the two countries.
