The Airline Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), an association of domestic airlines, has pushed the government to increase airfare on different air routes.
The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) reviews airfare every two years taking into consideration major components such as fuel cost, maintenance cost and renewal charge of service.
“Airline operators are facing financial burden as the airfare hasn’t been reviewed for the last five years", AOAN said in a statement.
MoTCA had formed a task-force to review airfare in the first week of November and was asked to submit report within two months but this has yet to appear.
AOAN says “except for the fuel surcharge, there has been no increment in airfare in the last five years" and that fuel costs, cost of maintenance, insurance, landing and parking fees and lease tax have gone up in the last five years.
