ANZ 767-300 endures three-day delay at HNL

An Air New Zealand B767-300 was grounded in Honolulu for three days after a technical issue caused it to abort its departure for Auckland during the take-off roll.

The grounding was attributed to a fault in an engine status indicator.

Air New Zealand stated that “the issue was a fault with an indication system which meant it was showing the pilots there was an issue, however there was no fault with the engine itself.”

The aircraft endured three further attempts to depart, but was prevented by an initially-unsuccessful repair, Hawaiian military airspace restrictions and crew rest requirements.

The flight’s 227 passengers were accommodated in hotels for the duration of the delay, and eventually arrived in Auckland three days later.

Air New Zealand has promised to pay $1000 to each customer who was stranded in Honolulu due to the delays.
