ANAC - Brazil passenger traffic recovery at 93% of pre-pandemic levels

Brazil is showing strong signs of recovery with over 44.7 million passengers recorded in the first five months of 2023, between January and May, as per the data from Civil Aviation National Agency (ANAC). The figures recorded a 93% recovery from the pre-pandemic traffic levels.

Brazil received about 36.55 million domestic passengers until May 2023 recording a 14.3% increase as compared to the same time in 2022 and 95.5% recovery as compared to first five months of 2019.

The month of May’23 was so far the best for Brazilian domestic market with 7.29 million domestic passengers surpassing the 2019 level during which 7.05 million passengers were recorded. The domestic market was led by LATAM Brazil with 2.60 million passengers, Azul with with 2.34 million and GOL with 2.32 million passengers.

The international passenger count stood at 8.22 million until May 2023. Brazil recorded January 2023 as the best month in terms of international passengers with 1.87 million passengers. The country has recorded a recovery of 82.2% in terms of international traffic.

In May the total number of international passengers in Brazil was 1.58 million almost 86% of 2019 levels.
