ANA introduces first AeroSHARK-equipped aircraft
Japanese airline All Nippon Airways has introduced its first AeroSHARK equipped aircraft with its 777 cargo freighter. The first modified aircraft began scheduled cargo operations on September 2, 2024. The surface film technology, inspired by the structure of sharkskin, reduces drag and enhances fuel efficiency. The riblet modification is almost invisible to the naked eye, but is expected to deliver significant fuel and emissions savings. The airline plans to extend the AeroSHARK technology to 777-300ER passenger aircraft by next spring. ""We are proud to be the first airline in the world to implement this innovative technology to both passenger and freighter version of the Boeing 777,"" said ANA member of the board, executive vice president, engineering and maintenance centre Kohei Tsuji.
