ANA and EL AL signs strategic codeshare

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and EL AL Israel Airlines (EL AL) signed a codeshare agreement, enabling both airlines to offer further destinations to their passengers and onward connections from both cities. The agreement was signed in Istanbul, Turkey by the Chief Executives of both airlines.

The partnership will come into effect in the spring of 2024. Initially, ANA will be placing its code (NH) on EL AL's flight operating between Tel Aviv (TLV) and Tokyo Narita (NRT), which was inaugurated earlier this year in March. EL AL will place its code (LY) on select routes operated by ANA, including domestic routes within Japan.

Commenting on the codeshare, Shinichi Inoue, The President and CEO, ANA said: “ANA is excited to begin this partnership with EL AL, and we hope that it will provide safe and convenient travel with greater opportunities for both business and leisure passengers between Israel and Japan."

The two airlines also have plans to sign a frequent flyer program agreement, which would enhance mileage redemption benefits for passengers traveling between the two countries. By doing so, passengers from both airlines can experience premium customer service, reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, and premium customer benefits.

Dina Ben Tal Ganacia, Chief Executive, EL AL commented: “With the launch of the EL AL flights between Tel Aviv and Tokyo Narita, we have seen a great deal of interest of travelers between the two countries. The corporation between EL AL and ANA is an important element in ensuring the success of this route."

This agreement signed is only at its initial stage, and the airlines do plan on developing the partnership further. Hence, there is potential for ANA to place its code NH on more flights operated by EL AL in the future.
