American Airlines has named Stephen Johnson as vice chair and chief strategy officer.
Johnson will "lead and help shape American’s strategic efforts and initiatives across the enterprise" and will have responsibility for American Eagle and American Airlines Cargo, the carrier announced.
"This is part of our long-term plan to continue strengthening our senior leadership team,” said chief executive Robert Isom.
“I’m thrilled to step into this new role at such an exciting time for American and the airline industry,” said Johnson, who is to assume some of the responsibilities handled by Derek Kerr, whose retirement was announced by American in early May.
