American Airlines has noted a record-breaking Thanksgiving operation for the carrier, calculating higher than ever passenger volumes and fewer cancellations than any other Thanksgiving period in its history.
Customer numbers for the period so far have clocked in at 6.5 million passengers across more than 59.000 flights, with David Seymour, American’s chief operating officer, noting: “Millions of customers were counting on us to connect them with their friends, families and loved ones this Thanksgiving – and we delivered”.
2023 also saw the carrier cancel fewer flights than any other Thanksgiving period in its history. From 16-20 November, the airline cancelled just 55 out of more than 59.400 scheduled flights (a cancellation rate of 0.09%), citing ‘nearly all of the cancellations’ to be weather-related. ‘Our Chicago O-Hare operation ran smoothly yesterday despite the snowstorm,’ noted American.
