Some airlines move to cut routes across the globe as passenger numbers fall

American Airlines has launched its summer 2025 schedule just as the autumn season of this year begins. The schedule includes five new routes to Europe as it continues to grow its trans-Atlantic services.
American will resume flights to the Scottish capital city Edinburgh for the first time since 2019. In addition, it will add new routes to Athens, Madrid, Milan, and Rome.
""Resuming service to Edinburgh and adding new routes to other popular destinations across the continent will offer customers convenient access from American’s industry-leading domestic network to all that Europe has to offer,"" said American's senior vice president of network and schedule planning.
The new routes will operate daily on either 777-200 or 787-8 aircraft from various origins in America.
